Comic Creators Alliance 2010

Comic Creators Alliance

In January, I’ll be taking part in a fundraiser event called the Comic Creators Alliance: Fighting Together to End Human Trafficking. Last year 87 comic creators united to create one desktop wallpaper image featuring all their different characters, and together raised $10,000 for the purpose of fighting Human Trafficking! I’ve been asked to take part this year, so I’ll be adding Miranda to the wallpaper along side everyone else.

What is Human Trafficking? Human Trafficking is a sanitized term for slavery. There are over 27 million people enslaved in the world today, and most if it is young girls being sold into forced prostitution–both over seas and yes, in the United States. In the United States there are only 39 beds at facilities for victims in the entire nation–and at least 16,000 people being trafficked into the US from other countries each year! Not to count the domestic victims already living here.

The money that the CCA raised last year was split between two organizations, one global–Love 146, and a local shelter trying to get up and running–Gracehaven in Ohio.  (Toledo, Ohio is one of the largest trafficking hubs in the U.S.) Both organizations were able to expand their particular fights against this heinous problem in 2010. Love 146 is setting up Task Forces around America, local groups of concerned citizens bringing the fight and awareness to their own corners of the nation. Internationally, Love 146 set up the Cambodia Border Officers Project . This is total prevention: officers patrol the border crossing, looking for possible victims and the kids they rescue will never know the horrors they might have.  Gracehaven used our funds in the ongoing renovations that are necessary to bring the house up to code–plumbing and air conditioning were installed, along with two new bathrooms. They hope to be up and running soon but must first have six months of operating expenses in the bank. They are currently at one fifth of their goal–let’s see what we can do to help them!

The Donations Drive goes live January 11th on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and will last for 2 weeks.  See you then!

Webcomic Secret Santa 2010

Swiftriver Poster by Reed Hawker

I participated in the 2010 Webcomic Secret Santa art exchange again this year. I’m not going to tell you who’s name I drew just yet, but someone drew my name, and I’m guessing the art he did for me was one of the first to be delivered.

Who was my Secret Santa? None other than Reed Hawker of Culture Shock. He really outdid himself, and I love his use of textures and drama. He made my Trolls look GOOD. Thanks again, Hawk!

Twitter, Spambots, and You

Heck, that title alone is going to have spambots start targeting me.

Anyhow, I had changed one of my Twitter profiles to include this website, since the website table will only let you post one site. Now, I have Aksimet, but since then my spam has gone up about 300%. Not the audience I was hoping for by posting that info. So when I go home tonight, I’ll do a little revising and see if the spamming slows down. This is probably why I haven’t set up a forum, beacuse the last thing I want to weed out at the end of the day is “Make your penis bigger” spam.

Which reminds me, I haven’t really posted contact information here in a while. There are two Twitters tied to this site. (no spam so I’m spelling things out at)TLupien is my personal Twitter. You’ll get mini updates from me personally, including comic updates. Lately, you’ll hear about my month and a half long migraine. (no spam so I’m spelling things out at)B_Swiftriver is Bowie’s personal account, plus comic updates. So if my character is more interesting than me, you may want to follow that one.

Bowie also has a Formspring account. If you want to ask him questions, ask them at Swiftriver. Keep in mind, this is not a way to get spoilers out of me, Capeche? If I canget the right plug in for that, It may show up on the front page soon.

There’s a Swiftriver fan group on FaceBook.

I’ve several emails, but the best one for reaching me about this comic is webmaster(no spam so I’m spelling things out at)swiftriver-comics.com.

I have a personal design site that needs updating at http://(don’ttypethisbit,okay)patricialupien.com.

I think that covers most of the bases. Oh! I have a Paypal account if you ever want to donate. I figure that won’t go back up on the site until my health gets better and my updates increase.
